The repainting of our 118-year-old Depot, a San Leandro historic building, is almost complete! The contractor, Mark Miller Painting, expects that they\’ll be all finished up by Friday, just in time for our June Meeting. This meeting is scheduled for Friday, June 3rd, at 7:30 PM. We\’ve been working to raise the money for this repainting project for several years, so now that the finish line is within sight, it\’s overwhelming!
This is also the meeting where we elect the Executive Board for the 2016-2017 fiscal year, so members make sure to attend! If you\’re unable to attend, please contact Vice President Eugene Brichacek to obtain an absentee ballot. We\’re excited to move on to new projects in the next fiscal year, like improving the display lighting for the HO display, rebuilding the bridges on the G&O, and more structural improvements to our historic buildings.
Thanks to John Busby for these photos he snapped of the nearly complete paint job! A small gallery is included below. Doesn\’t it look great? Thanks again to all of folks who have donated to the Painting Fund over the years, the paranormal investigators who\’ve shown up and made their donations, and another enormous thanks to the San Leandro City Council for helping us bridge the gap of what we\’ve raised over those long years to meet the contractor bids and finally finish this important preservation and improvement project!
Don\’t forget to mark your calendars for our Summer Open House & Train Show, which will be taking place July 16th & 17th. You can bring the family and come check out our new windows and sharp, historically accurate paint job, as well as the new play structure that is being installed across the parking lot of Thrasher Park! We hope to see a terrific turn out this summer!
